Hollister Ranch

In the coastal enclave of Hollister Ranch, we designed and built a home for ourselves on 113 acres of raw land. A home that feels born of the hillside itself. Designed to blend in with the natural vibe there, and also withstand the canyon’s powerful winds, we built a 16-foot wraparound veranda offering shelter and sweeping views of the canyon and ocean. Large steel glass doors frame the ocean, while native stone inside mirrors the rugged terrain outside. From below, the house seems to dissolve into the slope, a natural extension of the land. Despite its remote location, modern comforts flow through—water wells, fire suppression, and power pulled almost a mile up the canyon. So harmonious was the design that the Hollister Ranch Design Committee showcased it as a model for others, proof that architecture can disappear into nature while elevating the experience of living there.
